From Geetha to Geethas: A Journey Rooted in Turmeric, Farmers and Purpose

The story of how Geetha’s vision grew into a Kerala-based turmeric brand recognised by the National Turmeric Board of India
There are stories that begin with a business idea, and then there are stories that begin with a person simply refusing to give up. The story of Geethas belongs to the second kind.
What began with Geetha’s determination to build something of her own gradually grew into a brand rooted in one of India’s most treasured crops: turmeric.
Today, Geethas is a Kerala-based turmeric brand built around the idea that the quality of a turmeric product begins long before it reaches the shelf. From working with farmers and carefully sourcing turmeric to developing turmeric-based products, every stage reflects the values that have shaped Geethas from the beginning. The journey has also led to recognition from the National Turmeric Board of India, with Geethas being recognised as the only brand from Kerala to receive this honour.
But that recognition is only one chapter. To understand what it means, it is worth going back to where the journey began.
The Story Behind Geethas
Before there was a brand, there was a woman named Geetha with a determination to build something meaningful. Geetha lost her eyesight at a young age. She learned Braille, continued her education and built her path despite the challenges she faced.

But what stands out in her story is not simply what she went through. It is what she chose to do with it. Rather than allowing those circumstances to define her future, Geetha chose to create an opportunity of her own. That determination eventually became the foundation for Geethas.
In 2019, Geethas was founded with a mission to bring pure, farm-fresh turmeric to families across India. What started as an individual journey slowly became something much larger: a journey involving farmers, agriculture, food, everyday wellness and, eventually, turmeric innovation.
Why Did Geetha Choose Turmeric?
Turmeric has never been just another spice in Indian homes. For generations, it has been part of cooking, traditional practices and everyday household routines. Its bright colour, distinctive aroma and long history in Indian food culture have made it one of the most familiar ingredients in the country.

But familiarity does not always mean quality. As Geetha explored turmeric more deeply, one question became increasingly important:
How can we make sure that the turmeric reaching a family’s kitchen is genuinely pure and of good quality?
That question became central to the Geethas philosophy. The goal was not simply to sell another packet of turmeric powder. It was to build a relationship with turmeric that began much earlier, at the farm itself.
At Geethas, Quality Begins at the Farm
At Geethas, the idea of quality begins before turmeric becomes a powder. We pay attention to cultivation, turmeric varieties, harvesting and post-harvest handling, because we believe every stage can influence the quality of the final product.
The brand’s current farming network spans more than 500+ acres and 1,000+ farmer partnerships, according to Geethas. Its stated mission also places particular emphasis on supporting women farmers and farmer producer organisations through fair trade and assured returns.

This matters because the quality of turmeric cannot simply be created at the processing stage. It begins with the soil, the variety being cultivated, how the crop is grown and harvested, and everything that happens after harvest.
Our approach combines responsible cultivation, careful sourcing and quality-focused processing rather than relying on shortcuts. For Geethas, therefore, pure turmeric is not just a product specification. It is a process.
Understanding the Quality of Turmeric
Not every turmeric variety is the same. Different varieties can differ in their characteristics, including their natural curcumin content, colour, aroma, yield and suitability for cultivation. This led us to explore turmeric varieties and cultivation methods that could support consistent quality and naturally high curcumin content.
One important chapter in that journey has been Prathibha turmeric. Prathibha is a turmeric variety developed by the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Calicut, and is known for its high curcumin content and agricultural performance. Geetha has also received recognition and licence support from IISR for cultivating the variety.

For us, the connection between traditional farming and scientific research represents an important part of our evolution. The aim is not to choose between tradition and science, but to bring the two together.
From Pure Turmeric Powder to Everyday Innovation
The first expression of the Geethas philosophy was simple: turmeric in its familiar form. Geethas Turmeric Powder is made from carefully sourced, farmer-grown turmeric that is naturally rich in curcumin, without added colour, starch or chemicals. It is the kind of product that does not need to be complicated. Turmeric belongs in the kitchen, in traditional recipes and in everyday routines. And sometimes, the simplest products are the ones that need the most care behind the scenes.
But Geetha's journey with turmeric did not stop at Turmeric powder.
She began asking another question:
Could turmeric be made easier to include in everyday life?
That question eventually led to one of Geethas' best-known products.
Curcumeal: Making Turmeric Easier to Include in Everyday Life
In 2020–2021, Geethas introduced Curcumeal, its first turmeric-based superfood innovation.

The idea was simple. Turmeric has been part of Indian food culture for generations, but modern lifestyles often make it difficult to maintain even simple daily routines. So instead of asking people to completely change the way they live, we explored ways to make turmeric easier to consume.
Curcumeal combines high-curcumin turmeric with carefully selected natural ingredients and was created to make turmeric easier to include in everyday routines. The product also reflects Geethas' growing connection with scientific research.
Curcumeal is described by Geethas as an off-campus incubatee of the ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), bringing a research-oriented approach into the development of a turmeric-based food product.
This became an important part of the brand's philosophy: Keep turmeric at the centre, respect the ingredient, and find practical ways to make it part of modern life.
Growing the Geethas Product Range
As Geethas grew, the same turmeric-first philosophy continued across its product range.
First Drink was introduced as a turmeric-based morning ritual, bringing turmeric and natural herbs into a simple daily routine.

Alongside this, Geethas continued to focus on turmeric powder and other turmeric-based products, including Kasthuri Turmeric, extending the use of turmeric beyond the kitchen. The products may serve different purposes, but the philosophy connecting them remains the same: Start with good turmeric. Protect its quality. Make it practical.
What Goes Into the Quality of Geethas Turmeric?
For Geethas, quality is not about one single claim. It is about the journey behind the turmeric. The process begins with farmer-linked sourcing and continues through selection, cleaning, processing, quality checks and packaging. We also focus on high-curcumin turmeric and careful post-harvest handling.
We also focus on traceability and laboratory testing of turmeric lots as part of our quality approach. This is important because when consumers look at a packet of turmeric powder, they see the final product. They do not see the field, the farmer, the harvest, the cleaning and processing, or the decisions made along the way. We believe that all of those steps matter.
Growing Alongside Farmers
There is another part of the Geethas story that can never be separated from the turmeric itself: the farmers. A turmeric brand cannot exist without the people who grow turmeric. That is why we have placed farmer partnerships at the heart of our growth.
Our farmer network has grown to more than 1,000+ partnerships, with particular focus on women farmers and sustainable cultivation.

The idea is to create value beyond the final product. Better sourcing can support better relationships, and better relationships can create more consistent quality. When farmers become part of a long-term ecosystem, the entire chain can become stronger.
For Geethas, the journey from farm to family is therefore not just a supply chain. It is part of the brand's identity.
Where Tradition Meets Science
Turmeric has a long traditional history, while modern research has created a deeper understanding of turmeric and compounds such as curcumin. We have continued to explore the space between these two worlds.
Its work with IISR and its cultivation of Prathibha turmeric demonstrate an effort to bring research and agricultural practice closer together. Curcumeal, meanwhile, represents an attempt to translate that understanding into a convenient food format for everyday use.
This does not mean replacing traditional knowledge with science. It means asking better questions. How can turmeric be cultivated responsibly? How can its quality be protected? How can it be processed carefully? How can people include it more easily in everyday life? And how can innovation remain connected to the ingredient itself?
These questions continue to shape the Geethas journey.
From Kerala to a Growing Global Presence
The journey that began in Kerala gradually reached beyond Kerala. We expanded through direct-to-consumer channels, Amazon India and global marketplaces, gradually reaching customers across India and internationally.
That growth is significant because turmeric is one of India's most recognisable agricultural products. Taking an Indian turmeric brand beyond its local market means carrying more than a product. It means carrying a story of Indian agriculture, farmers, traditional food culture and the possibility of building modern businesses around them.
For Geethas, the ambition is to take that story further.
A Milestone for Geethas: National Turmeric Board Recognition
Every journey has moments that make you stop and look back. For Geethas, one such moment came with recognition from the National Turmeric Board of India.

During 2024–2025, Geethas was recognised by the National Turmeric Board of India and became the only brand from Kerala to receive this honour. For a brand that began with one woman's determination, this milestone carries a deeper meaning. It represents the journey from an idea to a growing turmeric ecosystem.
From a personal beginning to farmer partnerships.
From traditional turmeric to research-guided product innovation.
From a Kerala-based beginning to customers across India and beyond.
And from simply selling turmeric to building a brand around the belief that quality should begin at the roots. The recognition is therefore not where the story begins. It is where several chapters come together.
The Geethas Journey Continues
The National Turmeric Board recognition may be an important milestone, but it is not the destination.
Geethas' stated long-term vision is to build a globally trusted turmeric brand while creating a farmer-led ecosystem rooted in purity, responsibility and empowerment. Its mission includes working toward supporting more farmers and farmer producer organisations, with a particular focus on women, while continuing to collaborate with research institutions and expand into international markets.
And that is what makes the Geethas story more than a business story.
It is not simply the story of a turmeric product, It is the story of a woman who decided to create her own path.
A story of farmers who form the foundation of that path.
A story of turmeric grown with care.
A story of traditional knowledge meeting modern research.
A story of products created to make turmeric easier to bring into everyday life.
And now, a story recognised on a national platform.
From Geetha to Geethas, the journey has been about turning a vision into something people can trust.
